Locals, Middle Eastern culture, International culture
The culture in Dubai is very different in comparison to the rest of The GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council), and the Middle East in general. The variety of the nationalities and cultures who live here, have created a multicultural environment (melting pot). That is why sometimes people forget that we are in a Muslim country.
1.Help from the government
As we all know, Dubai is a super touristy spot, therefore, the government is trying to attract as many people as possible. In particular, by allowing them to feel safe and free. I remember someone told me that the locals here receive some great benefits from the government. Such as free education. Newly married couples receive brand new villas from the government etc. Dubai’s citizens certainly have amazing support from the government. And I guess it’s much better compared to other countries. Locals here adore the ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. I also believe the adoration is very well deserved. As he always tries to improve the quality of people’s lives and stays involved in the problems of all the people.
2. Local people and Dubai Culture
Most of the locals are very friendly, open-minded, very passionate about their culture and traditions. And happy to share them with others. Even though only 15% of the whole population of Dubai are locals, they are still playing a great part in the city’s life. Emiratis in Dubai are very different compared to Emirates in Abu Dhabi (the capital). And other states like Sharjah or Fujairah. Because Dubai’s citizens grow up surrounded by multinational culture. They are free to go to British or French school. They have plenty of choices and don’t feel limited. As a result, lots of them have an overseas education. They travel a lot and often call themselves global citizens. However, I’m talking about the younger generation, millennials. Older people are very religious. The older generation wants to protect their culture and often look disappointed when they see uncovered woman on the streets.
I’ve personally found that The Middle Eastern culture. And Dubai culture in particular, is mysterious and admirable. Which makes me feel like exploring it more.
