Healthcare in Dubai

This might be not the most fun and exciting topic to discuss, however as we all know, it’s very important to take care of our health and knowing the healthcare system of the country you are going to live in. So let’s talk about healthcare in Dubai. The first thing you need to bear in mind is that almost all the clinics here are private. Once you have found a job your company will provide you with an insurance, which will cover visits to your doctor and medical treatment. Depending on how good your insurance policy is, it will cover things like a dentist or an ophthalmologist. Also, if you work for a big company, you might have a small clinic there with nurses and a doctor.

Unfortunately, I have had some an experience spending time in hospital. That is why I wanted to highlight a few distinctive features of healthcare in Dubai:

1.The facilities are great.

Almost all the hospitals in Dubai are new and have advanced equipment, in order to provide high quality healthcare services. It’s truly amazing to know how technology helps doctors do their work. The excellent, new facilities make your stay in the hospital much more comfortable. In case you have an unfortunate time in your life, and have to stay in the hospital. The government is trying to keep up with the needs of the people and often spends money on the renovation of the new hospitals.

2. Sadly I found that some of the staff working in the hospital are not super professional.

I know it’s a matter for debate, but some things are very basic and require just minor attention. That might be quite disappointing, particularly since it’s a private hospital and you expect to receive the the correct treatment.

3. The language barrier is a huge problem.

When people’s health is not in the right condition they become extra attentive to the information. And obviously, because English communication might be a little bit hard for some of the staff, they can send you the wrong message. You value and require very precise information when it comes to your tests. And any inaccurate information does not make your condition any better.

4. No one likes to be patient and spend days laying in the ward…

Especially being far from home and not having your family next to you. However, the hospital staff can make your stay harder or easier, with the right communication. personally, I become more sensitive and vulnerable to people’s attitudes when I’m not feeling well. I believe most of us are the same. Again, the difference between cultures is right here and it plays a significant role, even in your recovery. I’m not trying to say that all the nurses from my country are super attentive and caring, And all the nurses here are rude. Not at all, it’s just that they might have a different perspective in their head about how they treat patients in their counties.

Well, as I said at the beginning, it’s not the most exciting topic.  No one likes to be sick. However, it’s better to be prepared in advance and know some details about healthcare in Dubai. If it’s already happened and you need to see a doctor, the best thing would be just to visit a doctor of the same nationality as you, or who speaks the same language. This will make it easier for you to feel comfortable and even recover faster.
